Many would say that a casino buffet hardly counts as part of the fabric of the Sydney culinary scene. But we were greatly interested in this offering in the Darling Harbour precinct…everyone loves sampling from a range of 130 hot and cold dishes from time-to-time?
The buffet is available from 7am for breakfast and continues with lunch and dinner throughout the day. Pricing per adult is in the $30-$40 range, but the pricing is inclusive of a good selection of non-alcoholic self-serve beverages. The key to most casino buffets is to avoid peak times, so that’s why we decided to go on a week night.
There was no line- an express line is available for higher-up Absolute Rewards members which would help in peak times. Once inside, it runs like most buffets. The décor of the food area is reasonable, but the seating area looks a little cheap for a buffet of this calibre with the choice of seating and strong patterned carpet.
In our opinion, for the price, the food offering was excellent. Every course was covered and the choice of dishes would rival most casino buffets. The usual salads and soups were available, and in to the main course, there was a selection from different world regions. This included an Italian station with pizzas, pasta bakes and general pastas. Seafood was well represented, as was cuisine from Asia and the rest of Europe. There are few places offering such as a large number of dishes. For desserts, cheese, fruit and other dishes were well covered. The quality of each dish was well maintained. The international theme was well represented with well set out ‘groups’ of food from many of the most popular world cusines.
Unlike some rival offerings, beverages were well represented- fully automated coffee machines and there was post mix soft drink boasting a wide range of flavours.
We really enjoyed the Garden Buffet- for improvement, the décor of the seating area could be a little less cheap, but the quality of the food and fair price weeknight offering made up for it. We look forward to returning.
Food: Broad selection, great grouping of dishes and quality maintained
Ambiance: Decor somewhat lacking in the main dining area, not too crowded for a weeknight though
Service: All staff were helpful, there was no wait to enter the Garden Buffet
Price: Reasonable for a weeknight and seafood offering. All inclusive with beverages helps.
